Event description:

Hundreds of protestors have been killed in Nicaragua since April. I was born in Nicaragua, and came to America as a child refugee in 1979 following the revolution that brought current president Daniel Ortega to power for the first time - and that led to the Iran-Contra scandal in the 1980s, when members of President Reagan’s administration illicitly funded efforts to undermine the Sandinista government. In response to the current crisis, the United States and other countries have talked about the need to learn lessons from Venezuela and prevent Nicaragua from following the same descent into chaos. I have now joined friends in the diaspora to raise awareness and strategize a long-term nonviolent movement in the country. So what is really going on - and what should the rest of the world do about it?
